MUSEUM DIRECTOR TO RELEASE A NEW BOOK ABOUT BRENHAM

Brenham Heritage Museum Executive Director Mike Vance has authored a new book that will debut in mid-September.

The book, which is entitled “Brenham”, is part of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America Series.

The idea behind Arcadia’s Images of America books is to celebrate the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities with a heavy emphasis on the visual record.

Vance had two particular reasons for authoring the book.  The first was to raise money for museum operations, while the other was to highlight the museum’s photo collection and the pressing need to add to it.

“Brenham” contains 128 pages with a total of 221 historic Washington County photographs.

The vast majority of the historic photographs presented in the book are part of the Brenham Heritage Museum’s permanent collection, but others come from local families who have been long time supporters of the museum.

The acknowledgements thank over two dozen Washington County residents who contributed images.

Vance said, “The old ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ thing is so true because each of these photos contain such a wealth of information. There is an overall introduction to Brenham history and the captions are beefy enough that people will learn new things, as well.”

The museum will hold a book release and signing event sometime in mid-September as soon as copies of the book are in hand.  One hundred percent of the profits will go to operations for the Brenham Heritage Museum.
