GIDDINGS ANIMAL SHELTER TEMPORARILY CLOSED AFTER PUPPIES WITH PARVO DUMPED AT FRONT DOOR

The Giddings Animal Shelter will be closed to the public until next week after someone left a box of puppies that tested positive for parvo unattended at the front door.

The shelter was closed on Tuesday and will remain closed until next Tuesday, September 6th.

According to the Giddings Police Department, an unknown person dropped off the puppies in front of the shelter late at night.  After the puppies were observed and underwent medical confirmation, they were found to have parvo, which has spread throughout the shelter.

Animals that are not showing signs are being monitored.  The shelter is being deep-cleaned.

Police say abandoning animals in front of the shelter is a violation of the Cruelty to Animals statute, and they will pursue charges of abandonment against anyone who leaves animals at the shelter without making arrangements that are agreed upon by shelter officials.

  1. I to have found working with the Brenham Animal Shelter difficult. Years ago I tried to take an abandoned dog there and they tried to charge ME a fee for bringing them a stray dog that was found. It was clearly not my dog and I was not able to care for it, yet I was expected to pay a fee, I don’t think so, that is what we pay taxes for that support this place. A few years ago they threatened to fine me because MY dog was outside in MY front yard. The dog was with me, not bothering anyone, and yet they felt they could fine me. The quickly realized that this was not a fight they wanted to fight when I threatened to go to the City Council Meeting and turn them in. They really need to realize that they are there to provide a service to the people!

  2. If Giddings shelter is anything like the Brenham one, leaving pets outside is probably the only way to send them in. I’ve been wanting to send pets but they consistently rejected my requests. It’s been 5 years; the neighbors have probably shot & killed 20+ abandoned pets which could have been given new homes if they were admitted to the shelter. It’s not like they’re sick or anything.. Yes, it is unfortunate that the puppies left in Giddings were sick. Just make it easier to accept pets so unfortunate scenarios cannot happen

  3. I would hope that the Animal Shelter had cameras outside to be able to catch the idiots that left sick puppies outside the shelter and to put every animal there at risk of getting sick.
I would pray and hope and pray that these people get caught before they spread Parvo to other animals by not being responsible with other pets. I also hope that these puppies as well as the other animals don’t lose their lives because of these idiots!

    1. Where else are people supposed to bring animals they can’t take care of???
Drop them off at a park?
This is part of their job. Cleaning up after peoples pet issues is kind of what they do, right or wrong.
If not for the animal control, all wanted pets or unwanted pets would be put out to the elements.
