NEW BRENHAM BOOK SIGNING SATURDAY
Brenham Heritage Museum Executive Director Mike Vance has authored a new book on Brenham that will debut this Saturday. Vance will be selling and signing books from Saturday morning 10:30 to noon at the Brenham Heritage Museum’s Julie & Larry Tegeler Bus Depot Gallery. The gallery is located at 313 East Alamo Street and parking is available in front. The cost of the book is $23.99 plus tax. All profits support the Brenham Heritage Museum.
Entitled Brenham, the book is part of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America Series. While there are Arcadia books that highlight areas of almost all of the surrounding counties, none existed for Brenham or Washington County. When Vance discovered that fact, it presented an opportunity to both raise money for museum operations and to highlight the museum’s photo collection and the pressing need to add to it.
The vast majority of the historic photographs included in the new book are part of the Brenham Heritage Museum’s permanent collection, but others come from local families who have been long time supporters of the museum. That is the idea behind Arcadia’s Images of America books. They celebrate the history of neighborhoods, towns and cities with a heavy emphasis on the visual record. The books fit a standard template as far as size and page count. The Brenham title contains 128 pages with a total of 221 historic Washington County photographs. This is Mike Vance’s fourth book from Arcadia Publishing/History Press and their imprints and his ninth published book overall.
