BURTON SCHOOL BOARD HEARS BOND PROJECT UPDATE

The Burton School Board heard an update on the timeline for the ongoing bond project at its meeting Monday.

Stad Tomlinson, Project Manager for DSA Construction Management, said drawings to be provided for bidders are expected this Thursday.  Once they are received, it will take a day or so to be uploaded to the firm’s website to make them viewable to the public.  The drawings will be put out on several bidding platforms.

Tomlinson said after that, it will take about six weeks for a review process to make sure all data and numbers are correct.  A date will then be set to receive the bids; currently, bid opening is set for November 3rd.

Tomlinson noted that bidders can choose to bid on a certain scope or phase of the project, although it would be preferred to have one general contractor for the entire job. Update @ 4 p.m. 9/20: Tomlinson noted that bidders can choose to bid on a certain phase of the project, although it would be preferred to have a trades contractor bid on their entire scope, such as electrical, instead of single phases.

Once bid numbers are received and validated, Tomlinson said it should be a two-week turnaround before DSA gives the board a recommendation on who to move forward with for the project.

A pre-bid conference will be held on October 20th where prospective bidders will be walked through the project and have the opportunity to ask questions.  Other dates of September 26th and October 10th are designated as site visit days, as they are staff development days.  A special board meeting will be held in November to review bid qualifications and approve DSA’s recommendation.

In board action Monday, trustees granted an easement to allow Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative to perform electric work relating to the bond project.  They also approved Burton ISD’s District of Innovation plan after approving a resolution to renew its status as a District of Innovation in July.
