PANOLA UPSETS #15 BLINN IN FIVE SETS

The 15th-ranked Blinn College women's volleyball team dropped a Region XIV match to Panola College in five sets on Thursday in Carthage, Texas.

The 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 15-13 setback leaves the Buccaneers with a 23-5 overall record and a 4-3 conference mark.

"I am happy with and proud of our performance," Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said. "The girls played their hearts out."

Sophomore hitter Kierslynn Wright had what Gamble called her best match of the season on a night she recorded 25 kills and 16 digs. Wright continues to lead NJCAA Division I with 391 kills this season. Freshman hitter LaNeah Lara followed Wight with 18 kills and now has 319 on the season, good for second in the nation.

Freshman Taylor Glendening chipped in six kills for the Bucs.

Setter Darby Nash kept the offense in motion as the freshman handed out 45 set assists.

On defense, sophomore libero Ellie Turner tallied 26 digs, freshman hitter/libero Madi Gundry had 16, and Nash had 11. Turner is the NJCAA's top defender with 588 digs this season, a position she holds by a staggering 119 digs.

Blinn returns to play for a region match against Trinity Valley Community College at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, in Athens, Texas.
