BRENHAM CUBETTES OPEN REGION TOURNAMENT

The Class 5A Region III Volleyball Tournament gets underway later this evening.

The Brenham Cubettes have been on an incredible roll.  They are currently 36-12 on the season and Champions of District 21-5A.

So Brenham has won their first three playoff matches without even losing a set.  They swept Killeen Chaparral in the Bi-District round 25-15, 25-11, and 25-13. Then, the Cubettes beat East View 25-18, 25-8, and 25-14.  This past Tuesday, they defeated Georgetown 25-20, 25-9, and 25-12.

Senior Brooke Bentke, who is a four year starter on the varsity, is excited about what has been the deepest run the Cubettes have had since she has been on the team.

Meanwhile, Manvel is 33-10 on the season, and were the Champions of District 18-5A.  They won their Bi-District match over Crosby 25-6, 25-20, and 25-15. The Lady Mavericks then defeated Lamar Consolidated in Area Round 25-10, 25-9, and 25-14.

This past Tuesday, they won a thrilling five set match over District 17-5A Champion Barbers Hill.  Manvel won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-17.  Barbers Hill came back to win the next two sets 25-17 and 25-21. However, Manvel took the final set 15-11.

Manvel is led by a pair of 6'2" seniors that the Cubettes will have to deal with.  Lyric Jordan leads the team with 535 kills, and Devyn Lewis leads the team with 496 kills.

First serve for the Cubettes and the Lady Mavericks is scheduled for 7pm tonight (Friday).  In the other semifinal, Fulshear faces Lake Creek at 5pm.  Both games are being held at the Merrell Center in Katy.

The winners meet Saturday at noon at the Merrell Center in Katy.  If the Cubettes are in that Championship game, KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 11:30am.
