Giddings ISD Superintendent Roger Dees announced his resignation from the district after accepting a new position.

Dees has been named as the Deputy Director for the Region 13 Education Service Center in Austin.

Dees has been in public education for 30 years as a teacher, coach, and an administrator at both the school and district levels.

The Regional Service Centers were first authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1965.

The center serves as a liaison between the Texas Education Agency and the local school districts they serve by disseminating information along with conducting training and consultation for federal and state programs.

In his new post, Dees will be managing internal and external business services, technology, facilities, and field services.

During his time at Giddings ISD, Dees has seen the tax rate decrease from $1.40 to $1.1385 per $100 valuation. Meanwhile, the fund balance has increased from $2.8 million to $10.4 million.

Those accomplishments were achieved while providing new and remodeled facilities, a high level of integrated technology, and increased pay for teachers.

While his new job is in Austin, Dees said that he and his family will continue to make Giddings their home.
