Three teachers from the Somerville Independent School District have been selected to receive first ever Teacher Grants from the Somerville ISD Education Foundation.

The three recipients are Somerville High School Art Teacher Clover Cochran, Somerville Junior High 7th Grade Teacher Michelle Jobes, and Somerville High School ESL Teacher Molly Perez.

Each teacher was awarded a $500 grant that the Foundation wants them to use toward enhancing, promoting, and augmenting classroom instruction in areas not allotted in regular school budgetary funds.

The SEF said that they look forward in future meetings to hearing how the grant funds impacted the classroom and students.

The Somerville ISD Education Foundation was started last year as a separate organization from Somerville ISD.

Their goal is to raise and distribute funds to enhance the educational experience of all Somerville ISD students by providing scholarships and financial support through educational grants to supplement district wide programs and activities.
