ROBBERY SUSPECT GETS PRISON TERM
A convicted robbery suspect became the first person to be sentenced in Grimes County District Court this year.
33-year-old Ron Burchfield received a 15-year prison term for an Aggravated Robbery charge that occurred back on May 22, 2021.
Burchfield and a female companion arrived at the residence at 4am that morning. According to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, the victims knew Burchfield and his companion because they had previously worked at a car repair shop that is located on the property.
Burchfield threatened an elderly victim with hammer, and then proceeded to steal his cellphone and the keys to his truck.
Methamphetamine use is believed to have been a factor in the case.
The truck was later recovered in Harris County at a residence associated with Burchfield.
D.A. Investigator Blake Baldobino was able to use cellphone forensic evidence to corroborate details of the incident, and also interviewed the female companion.
Assistant D.A. David Armbruster prosecuted the case, which included flying in the female companion, who was in North Carolina, back to testify against Burchfield.
Burchfield was found guilty on September 16, 2022.
The sentencing hearing was held on Thursday before District Court Judge Gary Chaney.
Evidence of Burchfield’s criminal history, threats he made against jail personnel, and him being found in possession of a weapon while in jail led to Judge Chaney giving him a 15-year prison sentence.
