PARKS AND REC. BOARD MEETS WEDNESDAY
The Brenham Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met at noon Wednesday, and as the first order of business, elected a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson for the New Year. Bill Betts was re-elected as the Chairman and Lee Chalmers will replace Ginger Bosse as the Vice-Chairperson.
Moving into a work session, Public Works Director Dane Rau, updated the board on several items. He highlighted the Texas Parks and Recreation Maintenance Rodeo and Workshop that took place in November of last year. Parks Superintendent, Casey Redman, gave an update on the tournaments held last year at Brenham Parks in Brenham. Rau said the city is currently hiring part-time help for the upcoming tournaments. He said the city is offering $12 per hour and currently having to pay overtime to staff members to work the tournaments.
On phase 1 of the Brenham Family Park project, Rau said they are currently waiting on the Notice to Proceed from the Federal Government. On the Nature Trail at Hohlt Park, the city did receive a grant for $66,400 from Texas Parks and Wildlife. With the approval from BCDC for the remainder, the contractor is expected to start next week on the project which is expected to take 180 days. The trail will feature color signs that will describe what wildlife will be encountered while hiking.
On the current projects, funded by the city for this year, Rau said they are currently working towards refurbishing the men’s and woman’s locker rooms at the aquatic center. The aquatic center will also receive new lights for the pools and a new sound system. The final item approved the Parks and Recreation are the 2023 meeting dates. The next meeting date for the board is April 12.
