AUSTIN COUNTY FILLS COUNTY CLERK VACANCY

Austin County’s search for a new County Clerk has come to an end.

Andrea Cardenas was unanimously approved by the Austin County Commissioners Court at their meeting on Monday.

Cardenas, who has worked in the County Clerk’s office for almost nine years, will take the place of former County Clerk Carrie Gregor.

Gregor was an incumbent and ran unopposed for re-election this past November for what would have been her eighth term, but then decided that she would not take the oath of office on January 1.

Gregor resigned her position after serving Austin County for 30 years. She called the job “an honor and a privilege.”

Gregor said she was going to “pursue other amazing endeavours.”

According to the Bellville Times, Gregor has since moved out of the state.

The county advertised for the position and interviewed several candidates before making Cardenas their choice.

She will finish out Gregor’s term, which is up for election again in November 2024.
