CUBETTES SPLIT GAMES ON DAY TWO OF LEADOFF CLASSIC

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team split their games on the second day of the annual Leadoff Classic. They started the day off with a 10-2 loss to the defending 3A State Champion Hallettsville Lady Brahmas.

Heidi Busker, in her first start for the Cubettes, struggled giving up five runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Della Jasinski came on in relief and also had difficulty with the Lady Brahma lineup giving up four runs in 1 2/3 innings. Brenham's third pitcher, Kylie Baker, was finally able to settle things down giving up only one run in the final three innings.

Brenham's two runs came in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by McKenzie Tiemann that scored Sarah Mabie. Avery Maurer then hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Kaylie Rodriguez.

The Cubettes then bounced back with a 3-1 victory in the nightcap over the defending 4A State Champion Liberty Lady Panthers.

Brenham's Della Jasinski and Liberty's Brooklyn Taylor had a pitcher's duel going. Liberty scored first with a run in the top of the third inning to make it 1-0.

It would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Cubettes finally took control. Maurer hit a one out double, and then came around to score on an RBI single by Halle Scheel to tie it 1-1.

Scheel then stole second base and third base before coming home to score on a throwing error to give the Cubettes ahead 2-1 .

Later in the inning, Jasinski drew a bases loaded walk that scored Kaylyn Rodriguez to make it 3-1.

The Lady Panthers threatened in the top of the sixth, but Jasinski struck out three of the last four batters to secure the win.

Brenham improves to 4-1 on the season. The Leadoff Classic concludes today (Saturday) with games against Brennan at 12 noon (11:35am pregame on KWHI) and Danbury at 4pm (3:35pm pregame on KWHI.
