Seven students from Brenham Junior High School recently received awards in the VFW Patriot’s Pen essay contest.
The winners were Bailey Antkowiak, Georgia Carroll, Teagan Davies, Chance Dyer, Mia Flencher, Katelyn Phan and Reese Warmke. Each of the students was presented $50 by Brenham VFW Post 7104.
A total of 73 Brenham Junior High School students participated in the essay contest, which is open to seventh and eighth graders and features a different theme annually as chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. This year’s theme was “My Pledge to Our Veterans.”
The contest is coordinated by Brenham Junior High School history teacher Dylan Klovenski.
Each year, nearly 68,800 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest for a chance to win a portion of over $1.4 million in state and national awards.
Thank you to all the participants and congratulations to the winners. History is important and so are our veterans. We only have rights when we have love of our country and people that love it enough to sacrifice everything to protect it so hats off to the Vets BJHS and the students.
