CUBETTES WIN TWO ON FINAL DAY OF LEADOFF CLASSIC
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team picked up two wins on the final day of the Leadoff Classic at Alumni Field on Saturday.

Avery Maurer led off the bottom of the first inning by drawing a walk, and then stealing both second base and third base. Kaylyn Rodriguez reached on an error by the Lady Bears pitcher that also allowed Maurer to score. Annie Beckendorf reached on an error by the leftfielder that allow Rodriguez to score to make it 2-0 Brenham. Kaylie Rodriguez singled in Beckendorf to make it 3-0.
In the third inning, Kaylyn Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, and then later came home on another RBI single by Kaylie Rodriguez to increase the Cubette lead to 4-0
Brenham would tack on two more runs in the fourth inning. Riley Meyer was hit by a pitch. Kyla Garcia came in to run for her. McKenzie Tiemann sacrifice bunted her to second. Maurer reached on an infield single. The Cubettes then pulled off a double steal with Garcia scoring, and Maurer taking second. After Halle Scheel singled, Kaylyn Rodriguez laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to bring home Maurer with the 6th and final run of the game.
Della Jasinski picked up the win in the circle. She went six shutout innings, including retiring the first nine batters that she faced. Jasinski gave up only two hits and struck out six.
BRENHAM 15 DANBURY 1
The Cubettes got the scoring started with five runs in the bottom of the first. Avery Maurer led it off with a double. Halle Scheel followed with a walk. The duo then pulled off a double steal. Kaylyn Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Maurer with the first run, and then Scheel scored on a throwing error to make it 2-0 Brenham. Annie Beckendorf was hit by a pitch and Kaylie Rodriguez singled. Sarah Mabie brought them both home with a two run double to increase the lead to 4-0. Mabie then took second on a passed ball, and scored on a steal of home to make it 5-0 Cubettes.
Brenham added two more runs in the second inning after Maurer reached on a one-out walk, and then Kaylyn Rodriguez hit a two run homer to increase Brenham's lead to 7-0.
In the third inning, Sarah Mabie led off the third inning by drawing a walk. Pinch-hitter Nevaeh Holmes also drew a walk. Another pinch-hitter Zoe Henderson singled to load the bases. Maurer hit a two run double that scored Kyla Garcia, who pinch ran for Mabie, and Holmes. Scheel picked up an RBI on a groundout that scored Tiemann, who ran for Henderson. Kaylyn Rodriguez singled home Maurer to make it 11-0.
Danbury scored one unearned run in the top of the 4th to cut the Brenham lead to 11-1.
Kinley Antkowiak and Liliana Gonzales led off the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back single to lead off the inning. Tiemann walked to load the bases. Maurer reached on an error that allowed Antkowiak and Gonzales to score, and increase the lead to 13-1. Tiemann scored on a passed ball. Maurer then scored on a sacrifice fly by Kaylyn Rodriguez to make it 15-1.
Heidi Busker picked up her first win as a Cubette going five innings, allowing only one unearned run, four hits, and one walk.
Brenham is now 6-1 on the season. They will host the Huntsville Lady Hornets tonight (Monday) at 5:30pm at Alumni Field.
