CUBS OPEN SEASON WITH 2-0 WIN OVER PAETOW
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team opened the 2023 season with a 2-0 win over Katy Paetow last (Tuesday) night at Fireman's Park. The game was a pitchers duel from start to finish.
The Cubs finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning when Brady Rau singled home Gunner Gee with the first run of the ball game.
In the fifth inning, Lane Sparks led it off with a triple, and later scored on a double by Drake Bentke to make it 2-0 Brenham.
Sparks got the start on the hill, and went six scoreless innings allowing four hits, two walks, and striking out ten. Eric Aschenbeck came on and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to pick up the save.
Next up, the Cubs are taking part in the Santa Fe/Galveston Ball Tournament. On Thursday, Brenham will face Brazoswood at 2pm and Pearland Dawson at 4pm. Then on Friday, they are scheduled to play Episcopal at 4pm and Santa Fe at 6pm. There is one final game on Saturday that will be determined by seedings based on the results from Thursday and Friday's games.
