CUBETTES OPEN TOURNEY WITH A 13-6 WIN OVER HENDRICKSON

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team opened the Dripping Springs Tournament this (Thursday) morning with a 13-6 win over Pflugerville Hendrickson at Lake Travis High School in Austin.

It didn't take Brenham long to get on the scoreboard. Avery Maurer led off the game with a single, stole second, stole third, and scored on an RBI single by Halle Scheel. Kaylyn Rodriguez followed with a double that allowed Scheel to score. Annie Beckendorf singled home Rodriguez. Beckendorf later scored on an RBI groundout by Sarah Mabie. Kinley Antkowiak reached on an infield hit, stole second, third, and home. After a half inning, the Cubettes were up 5-0.

In the top of the second inning, McKenzie Tiemann led off with a single, and then came around to score on an RBI double by Maurer. Just she did in the first inning, Scheel then singled home Maurer. Scheel later stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Annie Beckendorf. Brenham ended the top of the second with an 8-0 lead.

Hendrickson took scored a couple of unearned runs in the bottom of the second to cut the Cubette lead to 8-2.

The Lady Hawks added two more runs in the third to make it 8-4 Brenham.

Brenham got back on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Scheel singled, stole second, stole third, and then scored on an RBI single by Rodriguez. Rodriguez would later come home on an RBI groundout by Beckendorf. Kaylie Rodriguez reached on an error, and scored on an RBI single by Riley Meyer. Antkowiak re-entered the game to run for Meyer, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI single by Tiemann. Mid-way through the 4th inning, the Cubettes were up 12-4.

Brenham would get one more run in the top of the 5th when Scheel picked up her fourth hit, and scored on an RBI single by Kaylyn Rodriguez. That made it 13-4 Cubettes.

Hendrickson scored two more unearned runs in the bottom of the 5th, but it was not enough, as the Cubettes get the win.

Heidi Busker (2-1) got the win pitching all five innings, allowing three hits, six unearned runs, two walks, and five strikeouts.
