CUBS DEFEATED PEARLAND DAWSON ON NO-HITTER BY HEMANN
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team wrapped up the first day of the Santa Fe Tournament with a 10-0 run rule victory over Pearland Dawson.
Brody Hemann threw a no-hitter going five innings, allowing just two walks, and striking out four. That includes retiring the last ten batters that he faced.
The Cubs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Rylan Wooten led if off with single, and Lane Sparks doubled. Jacob Mabie brought them both home on a ground rule double. Barrett Kohring courtesy ran for Mabie, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gunner Gee to give the Cubs an early 3-0 lead.
Brenham put four runs on the board in the third inning. Mabie singled, and then Kohring ran for him. Drake Bentke drew a walk. Gee then brought them both home on a two run double. R.J. Ratcliff laid down a bunt that Dawson made a throwing error on. The error allowed Gee to score and Ratcliff go all the way to third. Ratcliff then scored on an RBI single by Preston Lee. The runs extended the Cubs to a 7-0 lead.
Brenham would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sparks led off the inning with a double followed by five straight walks to Mabie, Bentke, Gee, Ratcliff, and Brayden Goss that allowed two more runs to score. The inning wrapped up with a sacrifice fly by Lee to round out the scoring at 10-0.
Hemann retired the last three batters in the top of the fifth on two groundouts to Grady Gee at second base, and a flyout to Goss in right field to seal the victory.
