CUBS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH SANTA FE
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team split their doubleheader this past Saturday against Santa Fe on the final day of the Santa Fe/Galveston Ball Tournament.
BRENHAM 5 SANTA FE 4
The Cubs got the scoring started in the third inning. Rylan Wooten reached on a two out single, stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a throwing error by the Indians to make it 1-0 Brenham.
Santa Fe scored a couple of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Indians in front 2-1.
Brenham answered with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Drake Bentke and Eric Aschenbeck both walked. Preston Lee reached on an error to load the bases. Grant Rogas then blasted a three run triple. Rogas then scored as Brayden Goss grounded into a fielder's choice. The runs put Brenham up 5-2.
The Indians scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Cub lead to 5-4, but that would be as close as they would come.
R.J. Ratcliff pitched all seven innings for Brenham to get the victory.
SANTA FE 7 BRENHAM 4
Santa Fe would come back and defeated the Cubs in the second game of the day 7-4.
The Indians got the scoring started with a couple of runs off of Brenham starter Brady Boenker in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Cubs cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the third inning when Rogas doubled, and came home to score on an RBI groundout by Ratcliff.
Santa Fe scored five runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 7-2 in the game. Gunner Gee came on in relief to get out of the inning.
Brenham would get two of those runs back in the top of the 4th inning. Rogas led off with an single and then Wooten followed with a two run homer.
Jacob Mabie came on to pitch two scoreless innings, but the offense could not close the gap any further.
The Cubs finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, and are now 5-1 overall.
Next up, they will be at the Clear Creek Tournament beginning at on Thursday. Brenham faces Clear Creek at 1pm, and then Kingwood at 3:30pm.
