MAGNOLIA DEFEATS CUBETTES IN EXTRA INNINGS 7-5

Brenham got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Avery Maurer walked, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI single by Halle Scheel. Kaylyn Rodriguez laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Scheel to second. Scheel then stole third, and came home on a sacrifice fly by Annie Beckendorf to make it 2-0 Cubettes.

It would stay that way until Magnolia scored two runs in the top of the third, and three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.

In the fourth inning, Beckendorf singled, and then advanced all the way to third on an error by the Magnolia rightfielder. Sarah Mabie then brought her home on an RBI groundout to second base, and that cut the Magnolia lead to 5-3.

Annie Beckendorf (Mark Whitehead)

In the fifth inning, McKenzie Tiemann was hit by a pitch, and came home to score on an RBI triple by Maurer. Maurer then scored on an RBI groundout by Kaylyn Rodriguez to make to tie the game at 5-5.

Brenham had chances in the sixth and seventh to push the game winning run across, but failed to do so. In the top of the 8th, Magnolia First Baseman Madison Saldana unloaded a two run homer over the left field fence to put the Lady Bulldogs up for good 7-5.

The Cubettes now get ready for the Brenham Tournament on Thursday. They will face Midland Legacy on at 11am, and Forney at 5pm. KWHI will have live coverage of the second game beginning with the pregame at 4:35pm.
