CUBS KNOCK OFF MORTON RANCH 7-2

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team knocked off Morton Ranch 7-2 in their first game on the second day of the Brenham Alumni Tournament this (Friday) afternoon.

Lane Sparks got it going for Brenham in the bottom of the first inning by drawing a one-out walk. He then stole second, and later tagged and went to third on a fly ball by Drake Bentke. Brady Rau then brought him home with an RBI single to give the Cubs an early 1-0 lead.

A couple of Cub errors led to Morton Ranch scoring a couple of unearned runs off of starting pitcher Mason Finke in the top of the second to put the Mavericks in front 2-1.

Brenham re-took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Grady Gee reached on an error. R.J. Ratcliff singled and Lane Sparks walked to load the bases. Gunner Gee then drew a bases loaded walk to bring home his younger brother with the tying run. Brady Rau followed with a two run single that scored Ratcliff and Sparks. The next batter up, Landry Mendoza slugged a two run double that scored Gee and Rau to put the Cubs ahead 6-2.

Brenham would get one more run in the bottom of the third inning. Ratcliff led off with a walk and stole second. He then scored on an RBI single by Barrett Kohring.

Finke went the first four innings to get the win. Brayden Goss came on to pitch two scoreless innings of relief to seal the victory.

The Cubs are now scheduled to face Lamar tonight (Friday) at 6pm. They will wrap up the tournament tomorrow (Saturday) against Cedar Ridge at 11am, and Morton Ranch at 1:30pm. KWHI will have live coverage of both games beginning with the pregame at 10:35am on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
