UNITY THEATRE TO OFFER SUMMER DRAMA CAMPS

Registration is open for Summer Drama Camps at Unity Theatre in Brenham.

Students entering grades 2-12 are invited to learn from Unity’s team of professional teaching artists and performers, who will introduce them to the craft of creating characters and bringing theatrical performance to life on stage.

Campers coming into the second or third grade will experience “Creative Dramatics”, a one-week camp from July 10-14 with a showcase performance on Saturday, July 15th.

Two options are available for grades 4-6.  The first is “Playbuilding”, a one-week camp taking place July 10-14 and concluding with a showcase on July 15th

The second is to attend the two-week camp “Acting in Performance, Jr.”, which will be held July 17-30.  Students in the two-week session will be  cast as supporting characters in Unity’s summer musical production of “Jack and the Beanstalk”, playing on the Main Stage July 27-30.  The registration fee includes four complimentary tickets to a performance.

Grades 7-12 will attend “Acting in Performance: Showcase”.  In the two-week camp, running July 10-21, students will audition for, be cast in and rehearse a black box production of “Every Novel You Read in High School (in 25 Minutes or Less)” by Ian McWethy.  The performance features a group of theater students attempting to present all the novels they read in high school before class lets out for the summer.  The camp culminates in two showcase performances for family and friends.

Camp costs are $180 for “Creative Dramatics” and “Playbuilding”, $250 for “Acting in Performance, Jr.” and $350 for “Acting in Performance: Showcase”.  Space is limited and scholarships are available.
