BLINN SOFTBALL SWEEPS LSU-EUNICE IN DOUBLEHEADER

The Blinn Buccaneer Softball Team swept the LSU-Eunice Lady Bengals in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Hohlt Park.

The Lady Bengals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring a run in each of the first two innings.

The Bucs got on the board in the bottom of the third when Kenley Strange walked, stole second, and then scored on an RBI double by Erynne Castillo to cut the lead to 2-1.

LSU-Eunice added three runs in the fifth inning to increase their lead to 5-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Castillo tripled, and then scored on an RBI single by Madi Stephenson. Stephenson later came home on a sacrifice fly by Caitlyn Stevens to cut the Lady Bengal lead down to 5-3.

Then, in the bottom of the 7th, Skylar Shanahan and Stevens were hit by pitches to put two runners on for Madi Dorrow. Dorrow followed by launching a three run walk-off homer to give Blinn a 6-5 victory.

Sydnie Cline, who came on in relief and pitched a scoreless seventh, wound up being the winning pitcher.

Peyton Welker had another good outing in front of the home crowd as she went the distance to get the win. Welker went seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.

After Shanahan reached on an error, Dorrow hit her second home run of the day to give Blinn a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

The Bucs would get one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Stevens that scored Cavillo, who had walked earlier in the inning. Blinn would win the game 3-0.
