INDEPENDENCE FIRE & ICE COOK-OFF APRIL 14, 15
Registration is open for the annual “Fire & Ice Cook-off” in Independence.
Teams will gather on the Independence town square on April 14th and 15th to compete in several cook-off categories.
Entries will be judged in chicken, ribs, brisket, beans, margaritas, chef’s choice and a steak shootout.
First place in the steak shootout will win $1,000, sponsored by Southern Star Trucking and Brenham Iron Works. Second place will receive a $500 prize courtesy of Cattleman’s Brenham Livestock Auction. Third place will get $250, sponsored by Schulte Cattle Company. Cash prizes will also be presented in the other categories.
Team registration for chicken, ribs, brisket and beans is $100 before Friday, going up to $125 after that. Entry is $30 for the steak shootout, $25 for chef’s choice and $20 for margaritas.
Proceeds from the cook-off support the Independence Community Events organization in its restoration project for the old school house.
