FORMER SOMERVILLE ISD SUPT. NAMED CALDWELL HIGH SCHOOL’S INTERIM PRINCIPAL
Caldwell High School’s principal is set to join another school district as superintendent, and the former head of Somerville ISD will lead the high school in the interim.
Caldwell ISD announced on Friday that Karla Sparks will fill the vacancy after Dr. Justin Turner was selected as the lone finalist for the superintendent role in Hubbard ISD.
Sparks, who most recently was the interim high school principal in Giddings ISD, served for 10 years in Somerville ISD, including as superintendent. She took on the position as an interim in May 2018, becoming full-time in January 2019 and continuing until her resignation in August 2022.
Prior to her time as superintendent, Sparks served for three years as the Somerville High School principal and another three years as the school district’s director of curriculum and instruction.
Dr. Turner was named as Caldwell High School’s principal in March 2021. Before Caldwell, he was an assistant principal at Bandera High School, a teacher/coach in Northside ISD and a junior high school principal in San Antonio ISD.
