Giddings High School has their first ever State Champion in Powerlifting.
Jusiah Sampleton set a new state record at the State Championships in Abilene with a combined lift of 1,980 pounds.
Sampleton, who was competing in the Class 4A 308 pound weight class, had a 585 pound deadlift, a personal best 820 pound squat, and a new state record with a 570 pound bench press.
In addition to his State Championship, he was awarded trophies for Best Bench Press, and Best Overall.
