CUBS BEAT MONTGOMERY 8-3 FOR FIRST DISTRICT WIN
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team found their way back into the win column with an 8-3 victory over the Montgomery Bears last (Friday) night.
The Cubs got on the board in the first inning. Rylan Wooten tripled to start the game. Lane Sparks then followed with a triple of his own to score Wooten with the first run. Drake Bentke drew a walk. Grant Rogas then hit the third triple of the inning to drive in Sparks and Bentke to give Brenham an early 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Grady Gee reached on error, and came around to score on an RBI single by Wooten. Later in the inning, Sparks walked, stole second, stole third, and then came home to score on botched pick off move by the Montgomery pitcher. Brenham led 5-0.
The Cubs tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Bentke reached on an error and Rogas walked. Tanner Reese followed with an RBI single, and then Grady Gee hit a two-run single to increase the Brenham lead to 8-0.
Montgomery managed to scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-3, but that would be as close as they would get.
Dawson Keim picked up the win going the first 4 2/3 innings. Brody Hemann pitched the final 2 1/3 to close out the victory.
The Cubs improve to 14-10 overall and 1-5 in district play. They will travel to Bryan Rudder on Tuesday night for a 7pm game.
