BURTON PANTHERS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER OVER SOMERVILLE

The Burton Panther Baseball Team swept a double header over Somerville last (Tuesday) night.

In the first game, Chet Fritsch threw a no-hitter and struck out nine. Only one Somerville batter reached base, and that was on an error.

Burton got things going in the first inning when Pierson Spies was hit by a pitch, Chet Fritsch reached on an error, and Kaiden Kalkhake drew a walk to load the bases. Colby Beck hit a two run single to score Spies and Fritsch. Beck stole second, and then Kalkhake scored on an error Carson Lauter then brought Beck home on a sacrifice fly. The Panthers led 4-0 after the first inning.

Burton then put the game away with nine runs in the second inning. Ryder Biggs walked, and Brady Grifin singled. Two errors by Somerville back to back allowed Vicente Veliz to reach base, while Biggs and Grifin to scored. Spies walked and Fritsch was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kalkhake reached on an error that allowed Veliz and Spies to score. Fritsch later scored on another error, and Burton was up 9-0.

Lauter doubled home Kalkhake. Bryson Biggs reached on yet another Somerville error that allow Lauter to come around and score. Ryder Biggs walked. The Briggs Brothers then both moved up an extra base on a passed ball. Veliz followed with a two run single to score both Bryson and Ryder. The Panthers were then up 13-0 in the middle of the second.

Burton would tack on one more run in the third. Chet Fritsch singled. Austin Simank was brought in to courtesy run. Kalkhake and Beck had back-to-back walks. Lauter hit a sacrifice fly that scored Simank with the 14th and final run of the game.

Burton won the second game in just three innings. Carson Lauter threw a no-hitter allowing just one walk, and striking out six.

In the first inning, Vicente Veliz walked, and Pierson Spies reached on an error. Veliz scored on a steal of home to get Burton on the board. Chet Fritsch walked. Kaiden Kalkhake reached on an error, which scored Spies. Lauter walked to load the bases. Bryson Biggs drew a bases loaded walk to score Fritsch. Ryder Biggs was hit by a pitch to score Kalkhake, and the Panthers led 4-0 after one inning.

In the second inning, Kalkhake reached base on an error, and scored on an RBI double by Colby Beck. Beck scored on an error. Lauter singled, and advanced to third on an error. Bryson Biggs reached on yet another Somerville miscue that allowed Lauter to score. Burton suddenly found themselves up 7-0 after two innings.

In the third inning, Burton put the game away with eight more runs. Brady Grifin walked, and Austin Simank came in to run for him. Veliz singled, and after a double steal, Simank scored on a wild pitch. Fritsch walked. Veliz and Fritsch both later scored on steals of home plate. Kalkhake and Beck hit back-to-back singles. Lauter brought home Kalkhake on an RBI groundout. That put Burton up 11-0.

Beck scored on a steal of home. Bryson Biggs walked and Ryder Biggs reached on an error. Simank brought them both in with a two-run single. Veliz reached on an error that allowed Simank to score and enforce the run-rule.

Next up is the Burton Alumni Game, which is being played Saturday at 2pm at Panther Field. Participants are asked to arrive by 1:30pm.

The Burton Panthers are scheduled to travel to Mumford on Tuesday for a 4:30pm game.
