BRENHAM CUBETTES BEAT COLLEGE STATION 11-3
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team clinched a tie for third place with Magnolia after getting an 11-3 victory Friday night.
In the first inning, Avery Maurer drew a leadoff walk, and stole both second base and third base. She then scored on an RBI groundout by Halle Scheel. Kaylyn Rodriguez reached on an error. Annie Beckendorf singled. Sarah Mabie followed with an RBI single that scored Rodriguez to make it 2-0 Brenham.
College Station cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1.
Stella Landry led off the second inning with a single. Nevaeh Holmes was brought in to courtesy run for her. McKenzie Tiemann laid down a sacrifice bunt. Maurer hit a single to score Holmes, and make it 3-1 Cubettes.
In the third inning, Kaylyn Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, and Beckendorf singled. Mabie then brought Rodriguez home on an RBI groundout. Beckendorf scored on an RBI groundout by pinch hitter Riley Meyer, and Brenham led 5-1.
College Station score a run in the bottom of the third to make it 5-2.
In the fourth inning, Maurer reached on an error, and Scheel followed with an infield hit. Kaylyn Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Beckendorf followed with a three run double, and the Cubettes led 8-2 at the half way point of the game.
It would stay that way until the top of the 6th inning. Maurer singled to start it off. Scheel reached on an error. Kaylyn Rodriguez hit a two run triple to score them both and make it 10-2. Mabie reached on another College Station error that allowed Rodriguez to score to make it 11-2.
College Station scored one final run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cubettes would still get the victory 11-3.
Della Jasinski got the win in the circle going 7 innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, two were earned, four walks, two hit batters, and ten strikeouts.
With Magnolia's 18-0 win over Magnolia West, the Cubettes and the Lady Bulldogs finish in a tie for third place. They will have a one game playoff on Monday in Waller. Time to be determined.
