CUBS GET 3-2 WALK-OFF WIN OVER MAGNOLIA
In front of a packed house at Leroy Dreyer Field, the Brenham Cubs completed their sweep of Magnolia with a 3-2 victory tonight (Friday).
Brenham got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning. Brady Rau drew a leadoff walk, and then was balked to second by Magnolia starter Ashton Bassett. It was Bassett's second balk of the game, and after arguing with the umpires, Bulldog Coach Chris Morris was ejected.
Rylan Wooten walked. Lane Sparks followed with an RBI single to score Rau with the first run of the game. Wooten tried to score, but was thrown out at home. Sparks took second on the throw home. Later in the inning, Sparks stole third, and then tried to score on an overthrow, but was also thrown out at the plate. After the play at the plate, Bassett also ended up getting ejected from the game.
Meanwhile, Jacob Mabie drew the third walk of the inning, and stole second. Drake Bentke reached on an error, and Mabie came in to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.
Magnolia tied it 2-2 in the top of the fifth with pair of runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Jack Hubble and an RBI single by Brett Petillo.
The game stayed tied until the bottom of the 7th. Rau and Wooten walked. Sparks reached on a bunt hit. Jacob Mabie then walked it off with an RBI single down the right field line to win it 3-2.
Lane Sparks got the win in relief of starter Dawson Keim. It was also Little League Night. The Little Leaguers got to take the field with the Cubs before the game, and run the bases after the game.
Next up, the Cubs host Lake Creek Tuesday night at 7pm at Fireman's Park. It will be Seniors Night. It is also $1 hot dog night. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:35pm.
