RAIN DELAYS FOR BURTON BOND PROJECT
Recent rain has led to delays in the construction schedule for the Burton ISD bond project.
The Burton School Board was informed Wednesday night by DSA Construction Management that there was about six inches of rain in a two-week period.
DSA told trustees that even though surface water may run off or appear to be drying, the sub-surface is still saturated, making for undesirable working conditions. It is estimated that the rain caused about a three-week delay.
In board action items, trustees agreed to move the next regular board meeting from May 8th to May 9th to accommodate the first date to canvass election votes.
The board also approved the Texas Association of School Boards Risk Management Fund’s comprehensive coverage program proposal for the 2023-24 school year. The total proposed cost is $55,069, which is $999 more than the past year. The increase comes from auto liability and rising costs of vehicle parts and service.
Also on Wednesday, the board:
- Approved the instructional materials allotment and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills certification for 2023-24.
- Accepted a recommendation to extend contracts to Special Services Cooperative employees for the 2023-24 school year, including Kristi Hess, Director of Special Services; Holly Horton, Diagnostician; Michelle Ketrick, Speech/Language Pathologist; and Kelly Ponce, Licensed Specialist in School Psychology.
