GIDDINGS ISD NAMES LONE FINALIST FOR SUPERINTENDENT

Dr. Ray DeSpain

The Giddings ISD Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Raymond DeSpain as the lone finalist to be their new school superintendent.

The official decision on Dr. DeSpain was made on April 13, but in accordance with state law, the school board must wait 21 days before officially hiring him.

DeSpain currently serves as the Superintendent for Irion County ISD. He has also served as Superintendent in the Alto and Elkhart school districts.

He was born and raised in Pleasanton, Texas.

DeSpain received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Sul Ross State University.  He then earned his doctorate at Texas A&M.

During his educational career, he has also been a teacher, coach, junior high principal, high school principal, and assistant superintendent.

DeSpain will take the place of Roger Dees, who stepped down back in December to become the Deputy Director for the Region 13 Education Service Center in Austin.

Giddings ISD Assistant Superintendent Shane Holman has been serving as the interim superintendent.
