BURTON PANTHERS OPEN REGION QUARTERFINALS AGAINST JOHNSON CITY
The Burton Panther Baseball Team has reached the Region Quarterfinals of the UIL State Playoffs against the Johnson City Eagles.
The Panthers are the runner-ups from District 26-2A, and have a record of 21-9 on the season. Burton defeated Deweyville in the Bi-District Round with an 11-0 win and a 16-0 win to sweep the series 2-0.
Then, last week, the Panthers beat Thorndale 7-2 and followed that up by winning a 5-4, 16-inning thriller to sweep the Area Round series as well.
Johnson City won the District 28-2A Championship, and have a record of 20-6 on the season. They swept Granger in the Bi-District Round 2-0. The Eagles took the opener 9-1 and then won the second game 6-3. In the Area Round last week, Johnson City beat Iola 10-0 and 2-0.
First pitch for tonight's (Friday's) game is scheduled for 6pm at Liberty Hill High School. Darrell Kieke and I will have live coverage beginning with pregame at 5:30pm on KWHI 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
Game two will be Saturday at 12 noon at Liberty Hill, with an 11:30am pregame on KWHI. If a third game is necessary, it will be 30 minutes after game two.
Fans are reminded that there will be no ticket sales at the gate. Tickets must be purchased on-line at www.libertyhill.txed.net/Page/723.
There is also no concession stand for either day so outside food and drinks will be allowed. However, no "yeti" style cups will be allowed.
