FAYETTE COUNTY VFDS AND EMS TO RECEIVE NEW RADIOS
Six fire departments along with the EMS in Fayette County will soon be getting new radios thanks to nearly $950,000 in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The participating fire departments are Schulenburg, La Grange, Winchester, Ellinger, Round Top-Warrenton, and Carmine.
Schulenburg Fire Chief Jeff Proske, who took the lead on this, told the Fayette County Record about new regulations that require that all first responder agencies switch to the P-25 system by 2025.
The P-25 system is supposed to offer greater inter-connectivity between fire departments, the EMS, and law enforcement.
Proske praised Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn for helping to put the grant application together.
Ledbetter, Flatonia, Muldoon, and Fayetteville were the only fire departments in the county that chose not to participate.
The seven agencies will also have to contribute ten percent to the total award. Proske said that by going this route, instead of it costing his department $300,000 for the new radios, it will only cost them $22,000.
More government requirements yet not footing all the bill. “Costing his Department ONLY $22,000”. Seems a lot of money to me maybe also to those other 4 departments. Know who comes out making a fortune on all of this. Motorola…. Just Wondering….
So true-Motorola has cornered the market on these radios. The radios alone cost about $3000 a piece and then there is a yearly fee associated with it also. Prices have not gone down since digital is the way to go and no one else offers these in comparison. Price gouging at it’s finest
