JUDGE EDDIE HARRISON JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION THIS SATURDAY
The Washington-on-the Brazos State Historical Park will be hosting the annual Judge Eddie E. Harrison Juneteenth Heritage Celebration.
The theme for this year’s event is “Celebrating the Legacy of the Black Cowboy.” Activities begin tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 10am, and run until 4:30pm.
The celebration is being given by the Texas Historical Commission, the Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation, and the Texas Ten Historical Commission.
Guest speakers will be Reverend Fred Marshall of the Independent Missionary Baptist Church, and Larry Callies of the Black Cowboy Museum.
Presentations are going to include cowboy artifacts and skills, bands, food vendors, a genealogy workshop, and a Frontier Era Baseball game.
Other exhibits include Mance Lipscomb, Johnnie Swearingin’s paintings, and the Black Cowboy Museum’s Cowboy Camp.
Judge Harrison was a key member in starting the Juneteenth Celebration at Washington-on-the-Brazos back in 2017.
After he passed away in November 2020, the Celebration was named in his honor.
Harrison was a retired colonel in the U.S. Army and a former longtime Municipal Court Judge for the City of Brenham.
