TXDOT TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE IN LA GRANGE
The Texas Department of Transportation is conducting a feasibility study regarding possible changes to Highway 77 in La Grange.
The public is invited to an Open House on Thursday from 4:30-6:30pm at the VFW Hall at 500 Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange.
According to a legal notice that was published in the Fayette County Record newspaper, the goals of the feasibility study include reducing truck related crashes and improving mobility for local and through traffic.
TXDOT is also planning to share safety and environmental data, as well as promote community engagement in developing potential solutions for the corridor.
TXDOT held a preliminary meeting with local leaders. Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller told the Record that they are looking to re-route the Bluff south of La Grange, which has been the site of multiple 18-wheeler crashes
State Senator Lois Kolkhorst filed a bill in 2021 that would give local officials the ability to authorize prohibiting commercial truck traffic on the Bluff.
However, since it only applied to Fayette County, it languished in the Senate Transportation Committee, and never made it to the Governor’s desk.
For those that can’t make the regular Open House, TXDOT is also doing a Virtual Open House.
The Virtual Open House starts on Thursday, and runs through July 14. Residents can go to www.txdot.gov, search for US 77 in La Grange, and once there, they can review documents, and leave comments.
