WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO MEET MONDAY

Washington County Commissioners will gather on Monday for their next meeting.

Items to consider include the potential approval of a location for a dropbox to submit test samples for chronic wasting disease (CWD).  The matter was first discussed during a commissioners meeting in May, following the confirmation of the county’s first case of the prion disease in a white-tailed deer in March.

At that meeting, suggestions for testing sites included the constable headquarters on Blue Bell Road and at the Washington County Expo, but a location was never set in stone as concerns were raised about putting a site in an agricultural area.

Also on Monday, the court will hear the Office of Emergency Management’s quarterly report and potentially appoint Environmental Health Director Mark Marzahn to the Post Oak Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc.  The nonprofit organization serves the Brazos Valley region in promoting the conservation, development and utilization of natural resources.

An executive session is planned for commissioners to deliberate on real property and consult with the county attorney.  Any action will be taken in open session.

The court will also act on an item pertaining to the Pecan Glen Road District, that being a construction bid for a masonry mailbox for $850.  Information included with the meeting agenda packet states that during the Pecan Glen road improvements project, a cul-de-sac had to be widened and a mailbox needed to be moved.  The mailbox must now be rebuilt for the customer in a new location.

In other regular session action, commissioners will:

  • Act on granting the county engineer authorization to advertise for bids for Washington County volunteer fire departments’ auto policy, including theft fee coverage, accident and sickness coverage, portable equipment coverage and coverage for first responders.
  • Discuss and possibly act on placing the Independence Trail subdivision in Precinct 3 into the one-year maintenance period for Independence Trail (0.205 miles) and authorizing reduction of a security bond.

Commissioners will meet Monday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
