The New York Times has named a Brenham restaurant as one of the best barbecue restaurants of the New Generation.

Truth Barbecue first opened in Brenham in 2015 by Leonard Botello IV, who serves as the owner and pitmaster.  They are located at 2990 Highway 290 West.

Four years later, Botello opened a second location at 110 South Heights Boulevard in Houston.

Among the items on the menu that the article suggests that customers try are the beef ribs, the brisket, the cream spinach, and chocolate cake.

They have other desserts that are made by Botello’s mother, Janel, and the restaurant’s baker, Laquita Wilkins.

It is not the first time that Truth Barbecue has been honored. They have been honored multiple times by Texas Monthly as one of the Top Barbecue Restaurants in the Lone Star State, making it to the top three in 2021.

According to their website, www.truthbbq.com, Botello makes everything from scratch.  His barbecue is described as “authentic Central Texas style dedicated to the history of Texas barbecue, and his relentless attention to detail.”

  1. I wish that Sand Town Caterers would have a bar-be-que place in Brenham they make the best brisket around

  2. The truth is conservatively speaking LJ”s is the bomb if you can get there before the Sold Out sign posted. Then their is Truth.

    1. Both LJs and Truth are outstanding BBQ joints. We are lucky to have them both in Brenham. They both take pride in using quality meats and cooking them low and slow over real wood. The places that advertise their sauce is a good sign they are trying to cover up for inferior meat and using shortcuts to cook their meat.

    2. Amen, brother. Some of the best barbecue I have ever had. We are fortunate to have two nationally known restaurants in Brenham.

  3. I have tried several times to stop & eat there, but they are never open. Does anyone know what days and hours they are open?

    1. Have you checked their website or Google? That information can be found in both places.

    2. I’m curious about this too. I have eaten at the Washington Ave. & S. Heights Blvd. location many times but when I drive by the Brenham location I don’t see it opened up. Granted I don’t drive out that way all that often.
