BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS HB3

The Brenham School Board will be discussing House Bill 3 during a special noon board meeting on Tuesday.

House Bill 3 would require school districts to place at least one-armed officer or employee on each campus.

Any armed personnel would also have to complete school safety-specific handgun instruction training.

Regional safety teams would be created to conduct an annual intruder detection audit in each district.

It would also require law enforcement to meet with school district officials about safety, and for some employees to undergo training to recognize mental health problems.

Funding set up in the bill would include $15,000 per campus and $10 per student.

Houston Bill 3 passed both houses with bi-partisan support, and was signed by Governor Greg Abbott on June 14.

The board is also scheduled to go into executive session to meet with their attorney for deliberations regarding security measures.

The Brenham School Board meets Tuesday at noon at the Brenham ISD Administration Office.
