Both of the girls graduated from TCU, while both of the son in laws graduated from the University of Texas.
Coach West started his coaching career in Belton and make coaching stops at Round Rock Westwood and Spring Branch Memorial before taking his first head coaching job in 1992 at Kemp High School. Tim Oehrlein, a former Brownwood teammate of Coach West joined him at Kemp and they coached alongside each other for the next 26 years. In their first year at Kemp, they made it to the playoffs. This was the first time Kemp had been in the playoffs in 21 years. While at Kemp, they had a total record of 41-23-1, the winningest record in school history. In 1998, after 6 years at Kemp, Glen took the head coaching job at Brenham. Glen was recruited hard by Lee Cook, of Brenham National Bank, to come to Brenham, and Glen and Lee remained fast friends until Lee’s passing in 2010. Joining Glen and Oehrlein in Brenham was Craig Agnew, another teammate from Brownwood. Under these three men, the Brenham team rose to new heights. All three were coaches sons and shared the same philosophy that was passed down to them from their fathers. Coach West has a deep appreciation for both Kemp and Brenham and all the community leaders that supported their efforts throughout his career.
Besides being a football coach and wife, Glen and Julie gave their full selves to making Brenham a better place. They were active members of Brenham Presbyterian Church. Both were also in the group of leaders that originally started Brenham Gamechangers, an organization that has done so much over the years. There are numerous other civic and school organizations where they gave their time, talent, and treasure. Glen is humbled by this honor and wanted to thank all the people who helped him throughout his career.
