BRENHAM, BURTON SCHOOL BOARDS TO MEET WEDNESDAY
The Brenham and Burton School Boards are both set to hold meetings today (Wednesday).
Brenham ISD trustees will gather for an executive session to start the process of searching for a new superintendent, following Dr. Tylor Chaplin’s announcement of his plans to retire at the end of December.
They will also potentially adopt a resolution addressing the lack of state funding for school districts. This comes after several board members have been critical of the level of funding provided to districts to carry out new state initiatives while they find ways to provide teacher and staff pay raises.
Other business will include a review of the 2022-23 program performance of PRIDE Academy’s optional flexible school day program and potential renewal of the program for the upcoming school year. The meeting will then shift into a budget workshop.
The Brenham School Board meets at noon in the Brenham ISD Administration Office. The meeting will be livestreamed on Brenham ISD’s YouTube channel.
Meanwhile for the Burton School Board, budget projections will be the major focus of this evening’s proceedings.
Previous budget talks placed the estimated total for the upcoming school year at $17.3 million, up from last year’s $15.9 million budget. The main reason for the increase is the district owing a larger recapture payment to the state, coming in at a predicted $6.5 million for the new budget compared to $5.5 million a year ago.
The only other item to be considered is the acceptance of any new staff hires or resignations.
The Burton School Board’s meeting opens at 5 p.m. in the Burton High School auditorium.
How about continuing a conversation about police, or ? with training being at each campus. Don’t put it on the back burner. At this to your meeting.
