ERCOT REQUESTING VOLUNTARY ENERGY CONSERVATION THURSDAY AFTERNOON
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued a voluntary conservation notice for this (Thursday) afternoon.
ERCOT is requesting that Texans conserve power between 3 and 8 p.m. The request was prompted by extremely high temperatures combined with high electric demand and lower reserves due to low wind generation.
ERCOT has set 10 new all-time peak demand records this summer, the latest being on August 10th at 85,435 MW.
Some ways to cut down on energy usage include raising the thermostat by a degree or two, avoiding using large appliances, and turning off and unplugging non-essential lights and appliances.
In addition to today’s voluntary call for conservation, a Weather Watch is in place through tomorrow (Friday).
