ONE TRANSPORTED AFTER ACCIDENT IN OLD WASHINGTON
A Hempstead woman was injured Thursday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident in Old Washington that was caused by a vehicle defect.
The Brenham and Washington fire departments were called out just before 6 p.m. to a crash with entrapment at Highway 105 and Washington Bridge Road. Units arrived to find a patient entrapped in the vehicle and used rescue tools to extricate the victim, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a 2006 Dodge pickup was traveling eastbound when a front wheel came off, causing the vehicle to go off the roadway and strike a tree.
The driver, 34-year-old Lauren Smith, was transported via ambulance to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan with leg injuries that were considered non-life-threatening.
