UNEMPLOYMENT IN JULY DOWN IN WASHINGTON CO., UP IN SURROUNDING AREAS
After two straight months of increasing unemployment, Washington County’s jobless rate went down in July.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the county reported an unemployment rate of 4.9 percent last month, compared to 5.1 percent the month prior.
The number of unemployed residents in the county decreased from 781 in June to 755 in July.
Meanwhile, the overall employment tally grew from 14,638 in June to 14,693 in July. The civilian labor force also went up last month, from 14,419 to 15,448.
Washington County’s unemployment rate for July 2022 sat at 4.3 percent, with 670 people out of work.
The state’s adjusted jobless rate remained at 4.1 percent in July, unchanged for the third straight month.
Unlike Washington County, all surrounding counties reported increased unemployment last month:
- Austin County – 4.2 percent, up from 4.1 percent in June.
- Brazos County – 3.8 percent, up from 3.5 percent.
- Burleson County – 4.1 percent, up from 4 percent.
- Fayette County – 4 percent, up from 3.7 percent in June.
- Grimes County – 5.3 percent, up from 4.9 percent.
- Lee County – 3.9 percent, up from 3.6 percent.
- Waller County – 5.3 percent, up from 4.9 percent.
