BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. RESPONDS TO SIX CALLS BETWEEN SATURDAY, EARLY MONDAY

The Brenham Fire Department had a busy weekend, responding to five calls between Saturday and Sunday, as well as another call early this (Monday) morning.

Four calls came on Saturday, including a gas leak at 9 a.m. in the 500 block of West Jefferson Street and a gas smell around 11:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Scenic Brook Street.  Firefighters were unable to detect anything at either home.

The other two calls on Saturday were for a report of an illegal burn just before 1 p.m. in the 800 block of Matchett Street that ended up being someone cooking at a barbecue pit, and around 1:15 p.m. for a wash down to clean a hazard from the roadway in the 1700 block of Highway 105.

On Sunday, firefighters were called out just shy of 7 p.m. for a fire alarm in the 900 block of West Fifth Street.  The alarm was caused by grease starting to smoke while a resident was cooking in the kitchen.

At 1 a.m. today, units responded to the 2000 block of FM 389 for a smoke investigation.  The crew found that the smoke was coming from inside a trailer, where an air conditioner unit had a freon leak.  The unit and breakers to the unit were turned off, and the trailer was ventilated to remove the haze and smell in the trailer.  The residents were advised to have an AC company come out to repair the unit.
