Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a San Antonio man Tuesday night after a traffic stop led to the discovery of heroin.

Around 10 p.m., Deputy Cody Williams stopped a vehicle on I-10 at the 664 mile marker for a traffic violation.  Assisting were Deputy Duane Meagher and the Schulenburg Police Department.

After speaking with the driver and receiving consent to search the vehicle, Deputy Williams found two rectangular-shaped items wrapped in cellophane and black duct tape.

The bundles contained a dark brown tar-like substance that tested positive for heroin.  It was later determined to be approximately 2.4 kilograms, or roughly 5.29 pounds, in weight.

The driver, 60-year-old Rommel Sanchez, was placed under arrest for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, a first degree felony, and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center for booking.
