SIX CALLS FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. TUESDAY

  

The Brenham Fire Department had a busy Tuesday, responding to six calls for assistance.

The day began just before 11:30 a.m. with calls for a gas odor and a grass fire.

Units arrived for the gas odor call at 1901 Longwood Drive and found a contractor had hit a gas line.  They stood by until the City of Brenham gas department made location and released them from the scene.

For the grass fire at 2006 Longwood Drive, firefighters used tank water and a fire hose to put out the fire.

The fire department then responded just before 1 p.m. for a gas fire beside a business at 1103 South Market Street.  An employee used water to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived.  When they did, they used tank water and a hose from a booster truck to wet the area where the fire was to ensure it was out.

At 2:30 p.m., the department was called back out to 2006 Longwood Drive for a report of smoke from the grass fire in the morning.  Nothing was found when the department made location, so it returned to service.

Approaching 4 p.m., units were dispatched to a crash without entrapment at 1401 South Market Street.  They found a two-vehicle accident with minor damage.  As the roadway was cleared, the department used absorbent to clean up fluids and helped with traffic control.

Around 10:15 p.m., firefighters received an alarm at 4001 Highway 36 South, but as they were responding, the alarm was reset and they returned to the station.
