BURTON SCHOOL BOARD HEARS SECURITY AUDIT REPORT
The Burton School Board held their Regular meeting Monday night. The attendees learned that the Burton School District is safer than most school districts of any size in the state. Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy informed the board that the Security Audit Report about the District came in with flying colors. She said the report, which was given to each board member, said the school district did need to work on grab bags for each teacher, with medical equipment and school rosters inside, exterior lighting of the High School parking lot, and radios and cameras for the school busses. Also important to children, is the safe storage of firearms. Information will be going home this week with each student on the subject.
The trustees did approve the 2023 Burton ISD Wellness Policy Monday night. The plan encompasses all areas of Wellness including physical activities, meals, and the school nurse. The trustees also received a report on the school bond project. Members of DSA construction management said the project is making good progress. The inner ring of the track has been poured and the piers for the grandstands will be poured next week. A member of the public spoke up and said it was good to see some progress after months of very little.
Three members of the public talked during the open forum before the meeting started. They mostly had concerns about the lack of parent – teacher communication in the district. It was also revealed at the meeting that Runge has failed again to have enough football players for their 11-man squad. Runge will have to forfeit their game against Burton on October 20th and most likely play 6-man football next year.
