FOUR CALLS FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. WEDNESDAY

Reports of gas made up three of the Brenham Fire Department’s four calls on Wednesday.

Just before 9:30 a.m., the department was dispatched to the 900 block of Barnhill Street for a gas leak.  Firefighters arrived to find a 2-inch gas line leaking, with the City of Brenham Gas Department on location.  Units stood by until the gas line could be clamped off before returning to service.

After 3:45 p.m., a call came in for a grass fire in the 5100 block of Highway 290 West.  Members of the Brenham and Berlin Fire Departments responded and found a small grass fire.  Brenham units extinguished the fire with tank water and returned to the station, while Berlin firefighters remained on location.

At nearly 6:15 p.m., the department went out to the 300 block of Rodney Street for a gas smell.  Units arrived but did not find any reading on the gas detector, and stood by for the city gas department.

Just after 6:30 p.m., another report of a gas smell came in the 1200 block of Bridge Street.  Like with the previous call, units found no reading on the gas detector and waited for city gas employees to arrive before leaving the scene.
