NINE WEEKEND CALLS FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department was called out eight times on Saturday and once more on Sunday.

Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, units were dispatched to a fire alarm in the 900 block of West Third Street.  They arrived to find water coming from the smoke detector, and maintenance was contacted to get the water leak checked out.

Minutes later, the department was sent out for a crash with entrapment along Highway 290 West.  BFD made located to find a two-vehicle accident and used equipment to extricate one person from a vehicle.  The extent of any injuries was unknown.  Units cleared the scene once the vehicles were removed from the road.

Around 12:45 p.m., firefighters went out to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Fifth Street, where they were advised that one of the electrical meters was making a humming noise and started sparking.  Personnel stood by until the City of Brenham Electric Department made the scene.

Just past 2 p.m., crews went to a gas station in the 1700 block of North Park Street and found a gas pump hose had been disconnected at the quick coupler.  They reconnected the coupler and spoke with the store manager before returning to service.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., the department was dispatched to the 700 block of Spinn Street for a structure fire.  Firefighters found a tree limb that had fallen in the backyard, pulling on the power lines attached to the house.  Nothing was found inside the house when they checked, so they turned the scene over to the electric department.

A few minutes before 2:45 p.m., units were called out for a smoke investigation in the 100 block of East Airline Drive, but nothing was found after they made location, so they returned to service.

Around 3:30 p.m., the department was sent out to the Collection/Transfer Station at 2009 Old Chappell Hill Road for a report of a dumpster fire.  When units made location, they found a tractor truck fully involved.  Personnel used tank water and the front bumper line to extinguish the fire.  Once the fire and any remaining hot spots were out, they returned to service.

Just before 6 p.m., units were called out for a washdown in the 900 block of South Market Street.  The department used tank water and a hose line to wash the parking lot, and once it was cleaned off, it returned to the station.

Then around 4 p.m. Sunday, BFD responded to a report of a structure fire in the 200 block of Blinn Boulevard.  Personnel found light smoke coming from a garage and found a fire inside.  Units used an extinguisher to put out the fire and prevent any damage to the residence.  They also used a ventilation fan to remove the smoke before clearing the scene.
