NEW BRAUNFELS HANDS CUBS 2ND LOSS 38-21
It was a tough night on the gridiron for the Brenham Cub Football Team as they lost to 6A New Braunfels 38-21 on Thursday night at Cub Stadium.
The Unicorns scored three plays into their first drive on a 75-yard touchdown run by Tyree Johnson. Boone Partee added the extra point to make it 7-0 New Braunfels with 10:57 left in the first quarter.
New Braunfels added two more touchdowns in the first quarter on a 22-yard run by Maddox Morkovsky, and a two-yard run by Carmine Ybarra to increase the Unicorn lead to 21-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Cubs got their only score of the first half when Cartelle Brown intercepted a pass, and returned it 65-yards for a touchdown. Brenham missed the extra point, but had cut it to a one point game 7-6 with 8:06 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Johnson would score his second touchdown of the game on a 14-yard touchdown run at the 7:38 mark. Unicorn QB Leighton Adams would added another score on a five-yard touchdown run with 35.3 seconds left until halftime to make it 35-6.
New Braunfels would get their last score on a 35 yard field goal by Partee with 5:02 left in the third quarter. That made it 38-6 Unicorns.
Brenham managed to get a couple of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the game more respectable. Jakoby Dixon scored on a 58-yard touchdown run. Jordan Harvey then ran in the two-point conversion to cut the New Braunfels lead down to 38-14.
Harvey would then hit Chris Guidry on a long touchdown pass, and Rylee Davis added the extra point to make it 38-21 with one minute left, and that would turn out to be the final.
Next week, Brenham opens up District Play against Richmond Randle next Friday at 7:30pm in Rosenberg.
